Motorhome Rental Requirements

Planning a road trip? Before you hit the open road with a Henley Motorsports motorhome, make sure you tick off the basics. Knowing the paperwork, age rules and insurance bits up front saves time and avoids surprises at the desk.

Age, licence and driving experience

First off, you need to be at least 21 years old and hold a full UK driving licence for a minimum of one year. If you’re a seasoned driver with a clean record, you’re good to go. Those under 25 may face a small surcharge – it’s the same for most rental firms and keeps the rates fair for everyone.

Insurance, damage waiver and deposits

Every motorhome comes with basic third‑party insurance, but you’ll want to add a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for peace of mind. The CDW covers most accidental damage, though a deductible still applies. When you pick up the vehicle, you’ll pay a refundable security deposit – usually £500‑£1,000 – which is returned after the motorhome is checked and any extra fees are cleared.

Don’t forget to bring your own travel insurance if you want coverage for personal belongings or medical emergencies. It’s an easy extra step that can make a big difference if something goes wrong on the road.

Key documents to bring

Grab these items before you leave home:

  • Valid UK driving licence (photocopy is not enough)
  • Passport or another form of photo ID
  • Proof of address (utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months)
  • Credit or debit card in the driver’s name for the deposit
  • Insurance details if you’re using your own policy

Having everything in one folder speeds up the check‑in and lets you get on the road faster.

Common restrictions you’ll meet

Most rentals limit mileage to 300‑500 miles per day. If you think you’ll go further, ask about an unlimited mileage package – it’s cheaper than paying extra per mile later. Also, many motorhomes are not allowed on certain narrow city streets or private estates, so plan your route accordingly.

Pets are welcome on most vehicles, but you’ll need a pet‑friendly cleaning fee and a brief agreement to cover any damage. Smoking inside the motorhome is strictly prohibited; a cleaning surcharge applies if the rule is broken.

Finally, you must return the motorhome with a full tank of fuel, unless you’ve arranged a different fuel policy ahead of time.

By keeping these requirements top of mind, you’ll enjoy a smooth hand‑over and focus on the fun part – the journey. Ready to book? Grab your licence, cards and a sense of adventure, then head to Henley Motorsports Rentals for your next great getaway.
